Supplemental motor cortex
From WikiCNS
- i. Area 6, the premotor cortex when stimulated will evoke movements just as the primary motor cortex (area 4) but requires more electrical stimulus
- ii. Supplemental motor area is the most anterior portion of area 6 and 8 on the medial surface of the cerebral hemisphere with stimulation causing gross contralateral movements; there are no supplementary motor cortex neurons, however, in the internal capsule
- iii. Resection of supplemental motor cortex may result in temporary or permanent weakness
